Labs often order a deep freezer when a BOD incubator would hold 20 °C all year, or the reverse. Match the set-point to the work.

1. What a BOD incubator is for
BOD, plate counts and many pharmacopoeia incubations sit between 5 °C and 60 °C. A BOD cabinet is a refrigerated incubator with lights-out uniformity, not a food fridge with a sticker.
2. When you need a freezer
Reagents at −20 °C, plasma and long-term stocks belong in a laboratory freezer — not in a BOD set to its cold stop.
3. Sizing
Keep 30–40% free volume. Specify shelf pitch for your dish height and a glass door only if you need to inspect without opening.
4. Control and mapping
Ask for a PT-100, a lockable set-point and a mapping report at 20 °C and 37 °C.
